Divers Den Advanced Course

  • 48 - Pax

The PADI Advanced Open Water Course builds confidence and sharpens your diving skills.
As a result, you dive deeper and explore more of the reef.

You can complete the course over two day trips or on as an overnight adventure, with one or two-night liveaboard options available.

After you finish your PADI Open Water Course, the PADI Advanced program becomes the natural next step.
As a result, you can expand your abilities and unlock exciting new dive experiences.

You have a choice of how to complete the course.
For example, you can take two day trips aboard AquaQuest, or alternatively, choose an overnight liveaboard adventure.

If you select the overnight option, plan for a minimum of two days and one night.
However, you can also extend your stay with a multi-night liveaboard trip for more exploration.

The two-day trip includes the five required training dives only.
In contrast, the two-day, one-night option includes five training dives plus two fun dives.
Meanwhile, the three-day, two-night option provides five training dives and seven fun dives.
Consequently, longer trips give you more opportunities to enjoy the reef while learning.

Day trips depart on Saturdays only.
On the other hand, overnight trips can start on any day, offering greater flexibility.

Five dives count toward your PADI Advanced Open Water certification.
Therefore, the remaining dives are purely recreational, allowing you to relax and explore.

As a result, you can fully enjoy the spectacular Great Barrier Reef.
Ultimately, this course delivers the perfect combination of structured training and unforgettable adventure.

Example Itinerary

Day 1 – Reef Orientation, Skills, and Night Diving

To begin, enjoy a convenient pick-up from your Cairns accommodation.
Pick-up times vary depending on your location.

After check-in, you depart Cairns for the Outer Great Barrier Reef.
Soon after, your Advanced Open Water adventure begins.

Dives 1 and 2 – Reef Introduction Dives

First, you complete two relaxed pleasure dives on the Great Barrier Reef.
These dives help you adjust to local conditions and visibility.

At the same time, you fine-tune buoyancy and diving techniques.
If needed, these dives also act as a gentle skills refresher.

As a result, you feel comfortable and confident underwater.
This creates the perfect foundation for advanced training.

Dive 3 – Underwater Navigation Dive

Next, you review key theory with your dive instructor.
Following this, your instructor provides a detailed dive briefing.

During the dive, you practise compass navigation skills.
In addition, you learn to navigate using natural reef features.

Consequently, your underwater awareness improves significantly.
This skill becomes essential for independent diving.

Dive 4 – Night Dive on the Great Barrier Reef

Later, you prepare for an unforgettable night dive.
First, you complete a simple navigation exercise.

Then, your instructor leads a guided night dive.
As darkness falls, the reef transforms dramatically.

During the dive, you may spot sleeping turtles and parrotfish.
You can also see nocturnal marine life rarely visible during the day.

For many divers, this becomes a highlight of the course.

Day 2 and Day 3 – Deep Diving and Advanced Exploration

Dive 5 – Deep Dive

On the following day, you complete your deep training dive.
This dive allows you to safely exceed the standard 18-metre depth limit.

Under close instructor supervision, you descend to depths of up to 30 metres.
At depth, you observe colour absorption and pressure changes.

In addition, you complete simple tasks to recognise nitrogen narcosis.
As a result, you gain confidence for deeper dives worldwide.

Remaining Advanced and Fun Dives

With your core dives complete, you continue exploring the reef.
You finish the final two required Advanced training dives.

Furthermore, you enjoy up to five additional recreational day dives.
These dives introduce you to different diving environments and techniques.

Meanwhile, you relax between dives and enjoy life onboard.
The liveaboard experience adds comfort and adventure.

By late afternoon, the vessel returns to Cairns.
You arrive back at your accommodation at approximately 5:00 pm.

After-Dive Fun
