Spoilsport is one of the longest running, and the most awarded dive liveaboard offering 3, 4 and 7 night expeditions to the Cod Hole, Ribbon Reefs and Coral Sea with an open dive deck, and very relaxed, “Spoilsport” lives up to its name.
The 3 day Cod Hole trip depart Mondays beginning with a flight to Lizard Island, the 4 day Coral Sea and Cod Hole trips depart Thursdays by boat from Cairns. The 7 day trip departs Thursdays by boat from Cairns. 30m catamaran, 29 passengers, 10 crew.
3 day / 3 night Cod Hole – 12 dives
Departs every Monday 8am (Flight)
Returns every Thursday 8am
Monday: 6:30-7am check-in Mike Ball Office (3 Abbott St, Cairns). Transfer to Cairns Airport and board a light aircraft for a low level flight over the Endeavour Reef and the Ribbon Reefs to Lizard Island to board Spoilsport. (Flight time approx. 1 hour). Drinks and snacks will be served while the Trip Director conducts a welcome brief and dive gear is then organised.
This afternoon there will be 3 dives including 1 night dive. The dive sites may include the Cod Wall located at the outer reef edge that disappears into 60 metres (200ft), the Cod Hole famous for it’s inquisitive diver-sized potato cod offering the chance to get up close and personal and pose for a photo. Finally Challenger Bay a great dive site for day and night extremely rich in marine life, the night dive is an opportunity to see some of the reefs nocturnal inhabitants.
Tuesday: There will be 4 dives including 1 night dive. The sites may include Pixie Pinnacle and Lighthouse Bommie shrouded in fusiliers and baitfish. Fluorescent purple and orange anthias attract predatory fish to these photogenic sites. Majestic Minke whales are seen here in June and July.
Andy’s Postcard is encrusted in hard corals, lion fish, nudibranchs, octopus, schooling trevally and barracuda. See spectacular giant clams at Clam Beds as well as caves, canyons and coral encrusted bommies awaiting exploration.
Sheer walls covered in whip corals and sea fans brim the natural amphitheatre of Vertical Gardens. Marine life varies from the many colourful nudibranchs to large schooling bump head parrotfish.
Wednesday: There will be 4 dives, with exit dive at 5pm. The dive sites may include Flare Point offering unspoiled coral reef and marine life with a diverse range of coloured tropical fish. Joanie’s Joy is a wall dive with scattered bommies, anemones, turtles, Lion Fish. Steve’s Bommie a photographer’s dream with an incredible quantity of diverse marine life. Sun set champagne and nibbles followed by an Aussie BBQ party night. Commence cruise back to Cairns.
Thursday: 7am light breakfast disembark 8am courtesy transfers to Cairns inner city hotels. (Luggage can be stored until 5pm).
4 day / 4 night Cod Hole – 14 dives
Departs every Thursday 6pm
Returns every Monday 11:45am (Flight)
Thursday: 8:30-4pm check-in Mike Ball Office (3 Abbott St, Cairns). 4pm make your own way to Mondo’s Cafe, Bar & Grill (2oom from Mike Ball office) to meet passengers. Dinner is not provided on the first evening, you may wish to eat before boarding. 5:50 board Spoilsport and enjoy a glass of champagne and light snacks while the Trip Director provides a full briefing. 6:30pm Spoilsport departs, dive gear is organised and cruise overnight to the magnificent Ribbon Reefs
Friday: There will be 4 dives plus 1 night dive.
Saturday: There will be 4 dives plus 1 night dive.
Sunday: There will be 4 dives with, exit dive at 5pm INSERT DIVE SITES Sun set champagne and nibbles followed by an Aussie BBQ party night. Commence cruise back to Cairns.
7 day / 7 night Cod Hole – 26 dives
