Divers Den O/W Course

5 day over night (Monday start) or 4 day budget courses – Thursday start (or over 2 weekends)

Offering both 5 day budget courses, and a variety of over night options, Divers Den is one of the most established PADI dive schools in Cairns.

Courses are generally run in English, but on certain days they are also run in German and Japanese. (Chinese may be available upon request.)

An Open Water course consists of 2 days classroom theory and confined water (pool) practice, before you take your 4 open water training dives to become certified.

There are a few options you can choose for your PADI Open Water dive course. Prices on the over night boat OceanQuest vary depending on what cabin you select.

4 Day Budget Open Water Dive Course

(*Thursday or Saturday start)

If you’re on a budget, you don’t have much time, the Budget 4 Day Course is for you. Participating in this course doesn’t involve staying overnight at the reef. Instead, your first two days will be spent attending classroom and pool lessons, and the third and fourth days will be spent on board the day trip boat – Aqua Quest, which takes you back to town at the end of each day. This option does not come with accommodation.

*Thursday start is over 4 consecutive days. Saturday start is split over 2 weekends. Perfect for those weekday workers short on time!

5 Day PADI Open Water Course overnight stay

(Course commences Monday, Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays)

2 Days Pool & Theory then a 3 Day 2 Night Liveaboard trip on the Great Barrier Reef​

By far the most popular learn to dive option. Not only are you certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, but you also get 6 additional ‘Fun Dives’, including a guided night dive at no extra charge!!!

4 Day PADI Open Water Course overnight stay

(Courses commence Mondays and Thursdays only)

2 Days Pool & Theory then a 2 Day 1 Night Liveaboard trip on the Great Barrier Reef​

If you only have four days to spare, but want to experience an overnight trip, then the 4 day 1 night option enables you to obtain the same Open Water Certification. The difference being that after your 2 days pool and classroom you will spend just 2 days and 1 night diving the reef, experiencing a total of 5 dives.

Open Water Course Referral

2 consecutive days trips: Saturdays only
2 Day/1 Night Trips: Every Wed or Sat
3 Day/2 Night Trips: Every Wednesday

You may choose to take your theory and confined water part of the course at home before coming to Cairns. That way you only need to do your 4 training dives. These can be done as day trips or on the over night boat.

*If you suffer from ashma, are on any medication, or have any other medical conditions that concern you then please check with us, or the school, first to avoid disappointment. If you have any concerns we suggest you get a dive medical done locally (must meet Australian Standards) before you can dive. This costs around $70.
