Cairns is the diving “Mecca” of Australia and as such Cairns dive operators are almost always in need of good instructors. The vast majority of dive companies in Cairns offer either dive courses, introductory diving or both.

So although your dive qualifications certainly make you a useful employee, positions for Divemasters are very scarce. However, as this is a very common situation, we have designed helps to bridge the gap between qualifications and experience that often hinders finding employment.

Obviously the best and quickest way to become an Instructor is to pay up front for the course, and with our help, and you working hard we can get you in the workplace and help you find paid employment as soon as possible (most of our instructors have managed to find work within a few weeks of graduating).

However, for some funds may be scarce so we can also offer limited numbers on a traineeship whereby you can work for "credit" towards your IDC.

You will cover duties such as :
* Help running the back deck (logging divers in/out, lookout duties etc)
* Controlling all diving activities
* Help running the back deck (logging divers in/out, lookout duties etc)
* Acting as lookout on our dive tenders
* Working as a deckhand on our dive tenders
* Help work in our retail shop

Basically what we offer is unique, in that we offer 45 days free work experience, for anyone willing to partake in our Instructor Development Course. You will receive $70 credit per day PLUS the opportunity to earn cash wages as commission for dives etc sold on the day.

You will get the chance to build up the number of dives if you are short for the 100 pre-requisite for the IDC, as well as gain experience under the guidance of our staff. The best part of all is that not only is it totally flexible and we will sit down with you to work out a schedule. If you prove yourself during the 45 days, and after you have qualified as an Insructor, we may even be able to employ you, and you will be able to teach your own courses on the Great Barrier Reef! We also offer a job seek program, where we actively help find you work.

You will need to provide
* Professional Dive Medical according to Australian Standards 2299
* Proof of your Divemaster Certification
* Proof of Professional Indemnity Insurance
* Proof of personal medical insurance (Travel Insurance)
* Proof of Australian work visa

For every day spent in training you will receive a $70.00 credit that can be redeemed against Instructor level programs and PADI materials. (IDC, Pro Pack and all PADI materials = 45 days credit)

The PRO PACK course is compulsory simply because it is the best IE preparation possible, and has all the materials you will need for the IDC such as your workbook, instructor manaul, slates etc. In fact all the tools you will need when working as an instructor.

The employee-credit may not be applied towards the cost of the PADI IE and PADI registration fees as these are set by PADI themselves (see prices page) You will have to be able to support yourself during the Training Program, as there is no cash payment apart from commission earnt. We will endeavor to place you on a roster of 5 days per week but due to the nature of the industry we cannot guarantee this every week.

Please note that triaineeship places are VERY limited and we generally only take on 2 people per traineeship to join on our IDC programs, when we run them for paying candidates, so if you are interested please apply early, and check out the dates of the IDC program you wish to take giving yourself plenty of time. Remember this program runs over 45 working days, so allow 3 months to complete. You will also need a working visa to undertake any work in Australia. Paid or volunteer.

Whilst the above experience program is available in Cairns only, we do have other similar programs available in other areas including Vanuatu. These are for those who actually become qualified as Instructors by participation though one of our IDC programs, and are travelling on. It gives them an alternative place to work whilst travelling. There you can stay up to 90 days for food and lodging. If you stay the full term you will also receive A$700 towards your air fare. You will be living in the resort and again, working in all aspects of the dive industry. (In Vanuatu and Fiji they are not designed to work offt eh course, but to gain experience only.)

We run regularly IDCs in various Queensland and Thailand (Koh Samui) locations and have a 100% IDC pass rate. Every single candidate we have taught has been able to find employment. We feel our IDC is second to none - it is better value for money than the competition, with pass rates better than most others.

But there's still more! Take your IDC with us, and recieve discounts on not only further education courses, but an dive trips, and equipment purchases. Why not take advantage of the fantastic live aboard trips to the Great Barrier Reef. Some of the trips available are overnight trips to the famous Cod Hole and the Coral Sea to see the shark feeds. Also day trips to the wreck of the Yongala, one of the best wreck dives in the world.
