PADI Instructor Development Course

This is a very challenging course, but also a lot of fun. Here is where you learn to actually teach scuba diving. Successful completion of an IDC is a prerequisite for admittance to an Instructor Evaluation (IE). The new format IDC is divided into 2 parts.

Part 1 is the PADI Assistant Instructor Course, and part 2 is the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Course. Instructors from other agencies, wishing to become PADI Instructors, need only take part 2.

PART 2:

Open Water Scuba Instructor

Here is where you learn at a greater level about the various courses offered by PADI, as well as more advanced teaching techniques. This course is open to PADI Assistant Instructors or equivalent and also to instructor from other training organisations wishing to become PADI instructors.Successful completion of an IDC is a prerequisite for admittance to an Instructor Evaluation (IE)

The IDC (OWSI) curriculum includes the following topics:

  1. Course orientation.
  2. ive industry overview.
  3. General standards and procedures.
  4. The roll of media and prescriptive teaching.
  5. Le gal responsibility and risk management
  6. PADI Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver course.
  7. Teaching children.
  8. The PADI continuing education philosophy
  9. Business principles.
  10. Adventures in Diving program.
  11. Specialty diver courses.
  12. Rescue Diver course.
  13. Divemaster course.
  14. Diver retention programs.

Prerequisites:

  1. PADI Assistant Instructor or equivalent or instructor from another training organisation.
  2. Minimum age 18.
  3. Medical certificate, less than 12 months old, stating you are fit to dive (preferably to Australian Standard 4005.1).
  4. 60 logged dives (including documented experience in night, deep and navigation) please note 100 logged dives are a prerequisite to attending an IE.
  5. Be certified for at least six months.

Administrative Requirements

  1. Ensure current membership of PADI.
  2. Provide 2 sets of photocopies of all your certification cards (front and back), Open Water through to Divemaster / AI (not specialties)
  3. Provide proof (2 copies) of First Aid and CPR taken within 24 months.
  4. Provide 2 passport photos.
  5. Provide 2 copies of current dive medical.
  6. Complete and sent 2 copies of personal dive history (see back of booklet).
  7. Bring original, and current log books, to substantiate experience, and number of dives.

Included in course fees :

  1. 0.5 days tuition and use of classroom facilities
  2. Pool use during the course, and all boat trip fees
  3. Tanks, weights, and air fill

Not included in course fees:

  1. PADI materials
  2. PADI IDC registration fee (see current price list)
  3. Transfers, meals, and accommodation

How to prepare for the course :

  1. Attend the Instructor Preparation Course
  2. Book early to avoid disappointment, and secure your place with a 10% deposit.
  3. Obtain materials early, and begin self study - You MUST complete all Knowledge Reviews prior to the course
  4. Ensure you meet all administrative requirements above
  5. Practice your 800m snorkel
  6. Practice you demonstration of skills from the Open Water Diver Course.
  7. Study the Diving Knowledge Workbook
